Recipe Description

Spicy, flavorful, and irresistibly delicious, this Jamaican Jerk Tofu is marinated in a homemade jerk sauce that’s bursting with flavor, then baked to perfection. A fantastic vegan twist on a Jamaican favorite.

Ingredients

  • 14 oz firm tofu, pressed and sliced
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 2 green onions, chopped
  • 1 Scotch bonnet pepper, de-seeded and chopped (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh cilantro, for garnish

Steps:

  1. In a blender, combine soy sauce, vegetable oil, apple cider vinegar, lime juice, garlic, ginger, green onions, Scotch bonnet pepper if using, brown sugar, allspice, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and pepper. Blend until smooth.
  2. Place the tofu slices in a bowl and pour the marinade over them, ensuring all pieces are well coated. Marinate in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour, or overnight for best results.
  3. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  4. Arrange the marinated tofu slices on the baking sheet in a single layer. Bake for 25-30 minutes, flipping halfway through, until the tofu is firm and the edges are crispy.
  5. Garnish with fresh cilantro before serving.
