Recipe Description
Bannann Peze, also known as twice-fried plantains, is a popular Haitian dish that offers a delicious and crispy alternative to the traditional snack. This vegan version ensures a light, yet satisfying experience. The plantains are selected for their firmness and slightly underripe quality, which lends a perfect texture after frying. Served hot, these crispy treats are perfect for sharing during gatherings or as a hearty side dish.
Ingredients
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 4 cups vegetable oil for frying
Steps:
- Peel the plantains and cut them into 1-inch thick slices.
- Soak the plantain slices in salted water for 5 minutes.
- Heat oil in a deep fryer or large skillet to 375°F (190°C).
- Drain plantains and fry them for about 7 minutes or until slightly golden.
- Remove plantains from oil, drain on paper towels, and flatten with a plantain press or the bottom of a glass.
- Drain on paper towels, sprinkle with salt to taste, and serve hot.
