    Recipe Description

Indulge in the quintessential Canadian delight with a vegan twist – Classic Vegan BeaverTails. This beloved pastry, known for its deliciously unique oblong shape, crispy exterior, and soft, chewy interior, is reimagined here without any animal products, making it a perfect treat for anyone following a plant-based diet. Our rendition maintains the cherished characteristics of traditional BeaverTails, including the signature topping of cinnamon and sugar, which caramelizes beautifully upon frying, to offer an irresistible combination of textures and flavors. Crafted with simple, vegan-friendly ingredients, this recipe is designed to replicate the iconic taste and experience of the original, ensuring that vegans and non-vegans alike can enjoy this iconic Canadian pastry any day.

    Ingredients

    • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
    • 1 teaspoon baking powder
    • 1/2 teaspoon salt
    • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
    • 1/4 cup vegan butter, melted
    • 3/4 cup warm water
    • 1 tablespoon yeast
    • 1 teaspoon sugar (for yeast)
    • 1/2 cup light brown sugar

    Steps:

    1. In a small bowl, mix warm water, yeast, and 1 teaspoon sugar. Let it sit for 10 minutes until frothy.
    2. In a large bowl, mix flour, 1/4 cup granulated sugar, baking powder, salt, and 1 teaspoon cinnamon. Add the yeast mixture and melted vegan butter. Stir until a dough forms.
    3. Knead the dough on a floured surface until smooth, about 5 minutes.
    4. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise for 1 hour.
    5. Divide the dough into 8 pieces. Roll each piece into an oval shape.
    6. Fry each piece until golden brown, about 1-2 minutes per side.
    7. Mix light brown sugar and 2 teaspoons of cinnamon. Coat the fried pastries in the sugar mixture.
    8. Serve warm.
