Recipe Description

Crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, these vegan fried green tomatoes are a perfect savory treat for any occasion. Enjoy the taste of the south without any dairy or eggs!

Ingredients

  • 4 large green tomatoes, sliced
  • 1 cup unsweetened almond milk
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup cornmeal
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayon pepper
  • Oil for frying

Steps:

  1. Slice the green tomatoes and set aside.
  2. Mix the almond milk and apple cider vinegar in a bowl to create a ‘buttermilk’.
  3. In another bowl, mix together the flour, cornmeal, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and cayenne pepper.
  4. Dip each tomato slice into the ‘buttermilk’, then dredge in the cornmeal-flour mixture.
  5. Heat oil in a skillet over medium-high heat and fry the tomato slices for about 2-3 minutes on each side or until golden brown.
