Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons oil
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 1 tomato, chopped
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon coriander powder
- 1 teaspoon garam masala
- Salt, to taste
- 4 cups water
Steps:
- Rinse the masoor dal thoroughly until the water runs clear.
- Heat oil in a pot over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and let them sputter.
- Add the chopped onions and sauté until they turn translucent.
- Mix in the chopped tomato, turmeric powder, coriander powder, garam masala, and salt. Cook until the tomatoes soften.
- Add the rinsed masoor dal and water to the pot. Increase the heat and bring to a boil.
- Garnish with fresh cilantro before serving.
