Recipe Description

A heartwarming and nutritious red lentil curry that’s a staple in Indian households. Perfect for all seasons, this dish is a comforting and savory meal that’s both high in protein and vegan-friendly.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup masoor dal (red lentils)
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tomato, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • Salt, to taste
  • 4 cups water
  • Fresh cilantro for garnishing

Steps:

  1. Rinse the masoor dal thoroughly until the water runs clear.
  2. Heat oil in a pot over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and let them sputter.
  3. Add the chopped onions and sauté until they turn translucent.
  4. Mix in the chopped tomato, turmeric powder, coriander powder, garam masala, and salt. Cook until the tomatoes soften.
  5. Add the rinsed masoor dal and water to the pot. Increase the heat and bring to a boil.
  6. Garnish with fresh cilantro before serving.
