Recipe Description
Our Classic Vegan Tarte au Sucre brilliantly captures the spirit and sweetness of the traditional French-Canadian dessert, while catering to a plant-based lifestyle. This delightful tart combines the smooth, rich texture of a vegan brown sugar filling with a soft, homemade pastry crust. Each bite offers a harmonious blend of sweet and subtle notes, perfectly complemented by the light, flaky crust. To achieve the characteristic taste and texture, we utilize plant-based butter and milk alternatives, ensuring that the tart is entirely vegan without compromising on the taste or authenticity of this beloved dessert. This recipe is a tribute to the classic, beloved by both vegans and non-vegans alike, and is sure to be a centerpiece at any gathering.
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup plant-based butter
- 1/4 cup cold water
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 cup plant-based milk
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Steps:
- In a large bowl, combine flour and salt. Cut in the plant-based butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Gradually add cold water, stirring until dough forms a ball. Wrap in plastic and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Roll out dough on a floured surface to fit a 9-inch tart pan. Place crust in the pan; trim excess dough along the edges.
- In a saucepan, mix brown sugar, plant-based milk, and cornstarch. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until thickened. Remove from heat; stir in vanilla. Pour filling into crust.
- Bake in preheated oven for 25 minutes, or until filling is set. Allow to cool before serving.
