Method

In a large bowl, mix cornmeal, coconut sugar, cinnamon, and salt.
Stir in coconut milk, melted coconut oil, and vanilla extract until well combined. If using, add raisins or dates.
Divide the mixture among prepared banana leaves or aluminum foil squares, folding them to encase the mixture securely.
Steam the cornmeal packages for about 40 minutes.
Let them cool slightly before serving to allow the flavors to meld together admirably.
