Ingredients

  • 2 cups canned chickpeas, rinsed and drained
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 large onion, finely chopped
  • 2 tomatoes, pureed
  • 1 green chili, slit lengthwise
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 inch ginger, grated
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1/2 tsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp garam masala
  • 1/2 tsp amchur (dry mango powder)
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tbsp fresh cilantro, chopped for garnish

Steps:

  1. Heat oil in a large pan over medium heat.
  2. Add cumin seeds and let them sizzle.
  3. Add onions and sauté until they turn golden brown.
  4. Stir in ginger, garlic, and green chili. Cook for 2 minutes.
  5. Mix in tomato puree and cook until oil separates from the mixture.
  6. Stir in chickpeas, water, and bring the mixture to a boil.
  7. Reduce heat and simmer for 30 minutes.
  8. Add garam masala and amchur. Cook for another 5 minutes.
  9. Garnish with chopped cilantro and serve hot.
