    Recipe Description

This Classic Vegan Bannock recipe captures the essence of traditional Indigenous bannock bread, reimagined with a vegan twist to accommodate modern dietary preferences. Bannock, a staple in Indigenous cultures across North America, is traditionally known for its simple, hearty ingredients and quick preparation. Our version maintains the integrity of this beloved bread while ensuring it is accessible to those following a vegan lifestyle. By substituting non-dairy alternatives and eliminating animal products, this recipe offers a delicious, compassionate alternative to the customary bannock. Perfect for pairing with soups, spreading with jams, or enjoying as is, this bannock is beautifully golden on the outside, with a soft, fluffy interior that is sure to delight any palate.

    Ingredients

    • 1 tablespoon baking powder
    • 1/2 teaspoon salt
    • 1/4 cup coconut oil
    • 3/4 cup water
    • Extra flour for kneading

    2. In a large bowl, mix together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
    3. Cut in the coconut oil until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
    4. Gradually add water, stirring until a dough forms.
    5. Turn out onto a floured surface and knead gently, just until the dough comes together.
