Ingredients
- 1 cup mixed lentils (such as toor dal, masoor dal, and yellow moong dal), rinsed
- 3 cups water
- 1 teaspoon turmeric
- Salt, to taste
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 1 tablespoon ginger garlic paste
- 2 green chilies, slit
- 1 tomato, finely chopped
- 1 teaspoon coriander powder
- 1/2 teaspoon garam masala
- 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
- Fresh cilantro for garnish
Steps:
- In a large pot, combine lentils, water, turmeric, and salt. Bring to a boil, then simmer until lentils are soft, about 20-30 minutes.
- In a separate pan, heat oil over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and allow them to splutter.
- Add onions and cook until golden. Stir in ginger garlic paste, green chilies, and tomatoes. Cook until tomatoes are soft.
- Add coriander powder, garam masala, and red chili powder to the tomato mixture. Cook for another 2 minutes.
- Pour the tomato mixture into the cooked lentils. Stir well to combine. Cook for another 5-10 minutes.
