Recipe Description

This version of Vegan Dal Tadka adds a smoky twist to the traditional Indian favorite, combining smoked paprika with aromatic spices for a mesmerizing meal experience.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup yellow lentils (Toor Dal)
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tomato, finely diced
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon curry powder
  • Salt, to taste
  • Fresh cilantro, for garnish
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice

Steps:

  1. Rinse the yellow lentils until water is clear and soak them for 30 minutes before cooking.
  2. Drain the lentils and transfer to a cooking pot. Add 3 cups of water and bring to a boil. Simmer for about 25-30 minutes, or until lentils are soft.
  3. In a separate pan, heat the oil and add cumin seeds. Let them crackle.
  4. Add minced garlic and chopped onion. Cook until onions are golden.
  5. Mix in diced tomatoes, smoked paprika, turmeric powder, curry powder, and salt. Cook until tomatoes are mushy and oil separates.
  6. Stir in lemon juice and remove from heat.
  7. Garnish with fresh cilantro before serving.
  8. Enjoy your smoky Dal Tadka with rice or bread.
