    Recipe Description

A thick, hearty stew made from powdered chickpeas or broad bean meal, cooked with aromatic berbere spice mix and plenty of garlic, onion, and tomatoes.

    Ingredients

    • 2 cups shiro powder
    • 1 large onion, finely chopped
    • 3 cloves garlic, minced
    • 1 can (14 oz) diced tomatoes
    • 3 tablespoons berbere spice mix
    • 6 cups water
    • Salt to taste
    • 3 tablespoons olive oil

    Steps:

    1. Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat.
    2. Add onions and cook until transparent.
    3. Add garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
    4. Stir in the berbere spice mix, coating the onions and garlic.
    5. Add the shiro powder and mix thoroughly.
    6. Cook on low heat for 30-40 minutes, stirring frequently to prevent sticking.
    7. Adjust the thickness by adding water if necessary. Season with salt.
    8. Serve hot with Injera or rice.
