Recipe Description
A festive Dutch New Year’s treat, these vegan oliebollen are deep-fried dough balls, light and fluffy on the inside, and can be filled with raisins or apple pieces for extra sweetness.
Ingredients
- 1 cup warm plant-based milk
- 2 1/2 cups flour
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 apple, peeled and chopped (optional)
- 1/2 cup raisins (optional)
- Powdered sugar for serving
Steps:
- Dissolve yeast in warm plant-based milk.
- In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, and salt.
- Add the yeast mixture to the flour and mix until a sticky dough forms.
- Fold in chopped apple and raisins if using.
- Cover and allow to rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
- Drop spoonfuls of the dough into the hot oil. Fry until golden brown.
- Drain on paper towels and dust with powdered sugar before serving.
