Recipe Description

Fluffy and soft steamed bao buns filled with a delicious and hearty mushroom mixture, perfect for any vegan feast.

Ingredients

  • For the buns:
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon instant yeast
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 3/4 cup warm water
  • For the filling:
  • 200g mushrooms, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 2 green onions, chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, minced

Steps:

  1. Prepare the dough for buns by mixing flour, sugar, yeast, and baking powder. Gradually add warm water to form a dough. Knead until smooth, then cover and let it rise.
  2. For the filling, sauté mushrooms, soy sauce, hoisin sauce, sesame oil, green onions, and garlic until cooked.
  3. Punch down the dough and divide into 6 equal parts. Roll each part into a ball, then flatten and fill with the mushroom mixture.
  4. Steam the bao buns for about 20 minutes until they have expanded and are fluffy.
  5. Serve immediately while hot.
