These classic vegan hushpuppies are crispy on the outside, soft and fluffy on the inside, and are the perfect savory treat for any gathering.
Ingredients
- 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1 cup unsweetened almond milk
- 1/4 cup applesauce
- 1/4 cup diced onion
Steps:
- In a large bowl, mix together the dry ingredients.
- Stir in the almond milk and applesauce until the batter is smooth.
- Fold in the diced onions.
- Heat oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 365°F (185°C).
- Drop batter by rounded spoonfuls into the hot oil.
- Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels before serving.
