Ingredients
- 1 cup warm water
- 2 teaspoons sugar
- 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 4 teaspoons za’atar seasoning
Steps:
- In a large bowl, dissolve sugar in warm water. Sprinkle yeast over the top and let stand until frothy, about 10 minutes.
- Add flour, salt, and 1 tablespoon of olive oil to the yeast mixture. Stir until the dough comes together.
- Turn out onto a floured surface and knead until smooth and elastic, about 8 minutes.
- Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
- Punch down the dough and divide into 6 equal portions. Roll each portion into a ball, then flatten into a disk.
- Heat a skillet over medium heat and cook each pita for about 1-2 minutes on each side or until puffy and lightly browned.
- Serve warm.
