Recipe Description

Crispy, crunchy, and incredibly flavorful, this vegan chicken fried steak will amaze you with its meat-like texture and savory taste. Perfect for any occasion where comfort food is welcome.

Ingredients

  • 4 vegan steaks (seitan or similar)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon nutritional yeast
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 cup unsweetened plant milk
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 2 cups panko breadcrumbs
  • Cooking oil for frying
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Steps:

  1. In a shallow dish, combine flour, nutritional yeast, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper.
  2. In another dish, mix plant milk and apple cider vinegar, then let it sit for a few minutes to create a vegan buttermilk.
  3. Dip each vegan steak first into the flour mixture, then into the vegan buttermilk, and finally coat it with panko breadcrumbs.
  4. Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat and fry each steak until golden brown, about 4-5 minutes per side.
  5. Serve hot with your favorite sides.
