Recipe Description
Soft, fluffy, and filled with sweet jam, these vegan Berliners are a plant-based spin on the classic German doughnuts. Perfect for any celebration or as a delightful treat for any day.
Ingredients
- 200ml almond milk, lukewarm
- 75g sugar
- 75g vegan margarine, melted
- 1 packet dry yeast
- A pinch of salt
- Your choice of vegan jam for filling
- Icing sugar for dusting
- Oil for frying
Steps:
- In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, dry yeast, and salt.
- Add the lukewarm almond milk and melted vegan margarine to the dry ingredients and knead until you have a smooth dough.
- Cover the bowl with a clean kitchen towel and let the dough rise in a warm place for at least 1 hour.
- On a floured surface, roll out the dough to about 2cm thickness and cut out rounds using a cookie cutter.
- Place about 1 teaspoon of jam in the center of half of the dough rounds. Cover with the other halves, sealing the edges tightly.
- Heat oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 170°C (340°F). Fry the doughnuts until golden brown, then transfer to a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.
- Dust with icing sugar before serving.
