Recipe Description

Delicious hand-held pasties filled with a mixture of vegetables and seasoned to perfection. Ideal for picnics and afternoon snacks.

Ingredients

  • For the pastry:
  • 350g plain flour
  • 175g vegan butter
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • Cold water as needed
  • For the filling:
  • 1 small potato, diced
  • 1 small swede (rutabaga), diced
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 75g peas
  • 1 carrot, diced
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Steps:

  1. To make the pastry, mix flour and salt, then rub in butter until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs. Add cold water slowly until a dough forms. Chill for 30 minutes.
  2. Preheat oven to 220°C (425°F).
  3. Roll out dough on a floured surface and cut into rounds.
  4. Mix together all filling ingredients in a bowl.
  5. Spoon filling onto one half of each pastry round.
  6. Place pasties on a baking sheet, bake for 45 minutes or until golden.
