Recipe Description
The Classic Vegan Moroccan Khobz is a traditional bread that is deeply embedded in the Moroccan culinary heritage. This vegan version of the iconic Khobz retains all the authentic flavors and textures that have made this bread a staple in Moroccan homes for generations. Made with simple, plant-based ingredients, this bread is crusty on the outside and soft on the inside, with a delightful chewiness that comes from the thorough kneading process. The bread is subtly flavored with the warmth of nigella and sesame seeds, which are often sprinkled on top before baking, adding a lovely texture and depth of flavor. Perfect for scooping up rich stews or enjoying on its own, this bread is a versatile accompaniment to any meal.
Ingredients
- 1 cup whole wheat flour
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 tsp sugar
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 packet dry yeast
- 1 tsp nigella seeds
- 1 tsp sesame seeds
- 1 1/2 cups warm water
Steps:
- In a large bowl, combine both flours, salt, and sugar.
- Make a well in the center and add the olive oil and dry yeast. Gradually pour in warm water and mix until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, covering it with a damp cloth. Let it rise in a warm place for about 1-2 hours or until doubled in size.
- Punch down the dough and form into two round loaves. Sprinkle the tops with nigella and sesame seeds.
- Allow the bread to cool before serving.
