This version of Vegan Dal Tadka adds a smoky twist to the traditional Indian favorite, combining smoked paprika with aromatic spices for a mesmerizing meal experience.
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 1 tomato, finely diced
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon curry powder
- Salt, to taste
Steps:
- Rinse the yellow lentils until water is clear and soak them for 30 minutes before cooking.
- Drain the lentils and transfer to a cooking pot. Add 3 cups of water and bring to a boil. Simmer for about 25-30 minutes, or until lentils are soft.
- In a separate pan, heat the oil and add cumin seeds. Let them crackle.
- Add minced garlic and chopped onion. Cook until onions are golden.
- Mix in diced tomatoes, smoked paprika, turmeric powder, curry powder, and salt. Cook until tomatoes are mushy and oil separates.
- Stir in lemon juice and remove from heat.
- Garnish with fresh cilantro before serving.
- Enjoy your smoky Dal Tadka with rice or bread.
