A vegan twist on the classic German Flammkuchen, featuring a crisp, thin crust topped with creamy vegan cheese, sautéed onions, and smoky tempeh bacon, finished with a sprinkle of fresh chives.
Ingredients
- 1 pizza dough (store-bought or homemade)
- 1/2 cup vegan cream cheese
- 1 large onion, thinly sliced
- 4 oz tempeh, thinly sliced
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon maple syrup
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- Fresh chives, chopped for garnish
- Salt and pepper to taste
Steps:
- Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). If using a pizza stone, place it in the oven to preheat as well.
- Roll out the pizza dough on a floured surface to your desired thickness, then transfer to a piece of parchment paper.
- Spread the vegan cream cheese evenly over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges.
- In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add onions and cook until soft and translucent. Spread cooked onions over the cream cheese.
- In the same skillet, combine tempeh slices, soy sauce, and maple syrup. Cook over medium heat until tempeh is browned and crispy. Distribute tempeh bacon evenly over the onions.
- Garnish with fresh chives, slice, and serve immediately.
