Recipe Description
These vegan hot cross buns are fluffy, spiced, and adorned with a simple cross, making them perfect for Easter celebrations. Packed with raisins and finished with a sweet glaze, they are irresistibly soft and tasty.
Ingredients
- 1 pack active dry yeast
- 1 cup almond milk, lukewarm
- 1/4 cup vegan butter, melted
- 1/4 cup organic sugar
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp nutmeg
- 1/4 tsp cloves
- 3/4 cup raisins
- 1/2 tsp salt
Steps:
- In a large bowl, combine the flour, yeast, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and salt.
- Add the lukewarm almond milk and melted vegan butter to the dry ingredients and mix until a soft dough forms.
- Fold in the raisins.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 60 minutes or until doubled in size.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Prepare the cross mixture by mixing flour with enough water to form a thick paste. Pipe or drizzle this mixture over the buns to form crosses.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes or until golden brown.
- Warm the apricot jam in a small saucepan. Brush the warm jam over the hot buns for a shiny finish.
